What is the NGO Desk?
The NGO desk is set up with the main objective of providing
support to the Japanese NGOs at the commencement of their international
cooperation activities with the recipient countries. To date, JICA-NGO
desks have been set up in 19 different countries; the NGO desk for Malaysia
was set up in 2004 to handle queries and to provide relevant information
from both the Malaysian and Japanese NGOs. It has also extended supports
to the JICA Partnership Program in Malaysia.

Welcome to JICA-NGO
To
meet the diverse needs of developing countries, the Japanese Government
offers various assistances through its Official Development Assistance (ODA)
program. The roles of NGOs and local governments are becoming increasingly
important in international cooperation, both in Japan and that of the developing
countries. JICA is the official implementing agency of the ODA program.
It has conducted a wide range of technical cooperation activities in diverse
disciplines.
JICA Malaysia office was set up in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur. In the last thirty years, JICA Malaysia office has provided technical assistance to the Malaysian Government on various development areas such as environment conservation, social welfare and others.
NGO-JICA Malaysia, Japan Desk (henceforth refer to as NGO Desk) was set up in 2004 at JICA Malaysia office to provide the following services:
Major Scope of Work (services available)

To
provide relevant information to the Japanese NGOs
that includes
- Malaysia basic and aid organization related information, laws and regulation governing NGOs’ activities in Malaysia.
- Collecting information on Malaysia NGOs and to strengthen networking with these NGOs.
- Disseminating information relating to Malaysia NGOs.
- Offer consultations to the public.

To
support JICA Partnership Program
- Assist in profiling of projects.
- Provide information in conducting local surveys.
- Monitoring of on-going projects.

Pioneering
and profiling projects that involve NGOs.
To
promote exchange between Japanese and Malaysian citizens
by
- Providing relevant information for all exchange activities.
- Assisting in various exchange activities.
- Coordinating and processing applications of study tours.
